They have Arashi obligations later that morning and family obligations in the afternoon, but right now – well, right now they have to enjoy the time they do have.
Although Jun still isn’t awake, and Sho just smiles to himself. Some things never change.
And as Sho tries to figure out Jun’s fancy rice cooker, he becomes even more aware of that fact. They were supposed to be making breakfast together, but waking Jun up is about as dangerous as jumping out of a plane. Sho would know.
Well, he figures it’s worth at least trying, and if the smoke detector goes off, then Jun will definitely roll out of bed. He finds the cooker’s instruction manual in one of the kitchen drawers and finally gets it going while he warms up some miso soup in the microwave. The less time he spends at the stove the better.
He’d already been to the convenience store down the street to get some fish and natto, so that’s all set to go. Jun doesn’t have any holiday plates – everything’s clean, simple, efficient. He sets things out, fussing over the food. There’s really nothing making this all that Christmas-like aside from the calendar on the wall announcing that it is in fact the 25th day of December.
The rice looks edible, the miso’s hot, and he sits at the table for a full minute by himself. He really really REALLY does not want to go into the bedroom and wake the bear in his natural hibernating state. But the food will get cold, and Jun might complain about that too. He shakes his head and sighs – Jun is a hard man to please. At least in the breakfast sense.
He opens the bedroom door nervously, trying to stay light on his feet in the event of a lamp or alarm clock being flung at his face. Something strikes him as odd, though, when he gets closer to Jun’s form in the bed. For one thing, his hair’s not right. When he’s first waking, his hair sticks up in every which direction – but it looks like he’s already run a comb through it. Curious.
And then his breathing is too shallow. Finally Sho notices the slight smile on Jun’s face, and he knows he’s been duped.
“Oh, you suck,” he complains, reaching for a pillow to hit Jun in the face. And Jun just laughs – he’s been awake the whole time. Probably been awake since Sho got up and headed out to the convenience store.
Jun sits up, taking the pillow away and hugging it. “Good morning, is it Christmas already?”
“You…” Sho’s laughing now too. “You are horrible.”
“Mmm, I smell breakfast. Why Sho, did you make food all by yourself?”
He grumbles back into the other room, sitting down and sipping his soup while Jun strolls into the room, stretching. Such a liar, making him fuss and fret on purpose. Typical.
Jun just ruffles his hair, fingers lingering on the back of his neck before sitting down to examine the breakfast that’s been prepared. He wrinkles his nose immediately at the rice. “I bet you put it on the wrong setting.”
“I bet you can kiss my ass,” Sho retorts, eating the rice anyhow. Okay, so it might be a little overdone. If Jun thought it was hilarious to leave Sho floundering around in his kitchen at 7:00 AM, then he’d just have to deal with it.
They eat, Jun making complaints the whole time about the way the fish had been cooked and about the lack of tofu in the miso. When they’re done, Sho’s figuring that Christmas breakfast has been a complete and utter disaster. But to his surprise, Jun gets up and pulls Sho from his chair and into an easy embrace.
“Thank you,” Jun tells him. “For trying at least.”
Sho just sighs. “Remind me again why I like you?”
Jun flicks Sho’s forehead with his finger. “Because I’m usually the one cooking for you?”
“Ah, that sounds familiar,” Sho says, settling his hands on Jun’s hips possessively. “You mind clearing off the table?”
Jun smiles, catching the implication. “For you? The world.”
